NavCo: Your Fun and Educational Marine Companion

NavCo is a travel and navigation app developed by bookBeo for Android devices. It is a collaboration between the French Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (Shom), the French Biodiversity Office (OFB), and the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, Fisheries, and Aquaculture (DGAMPA). This app aims to provide a playful and educational experience for sailors, helping them navigate the seas using Shom maps, understand maritime signaling, learn about regulations, and explore marine biodiversity.

NavCo offers two modes of usage: Navigation and Discovery. In Navigation mode, users can choose to display various elements on the marine map, such as landmarks, fixed and floating beacons, regulations, and seagrass sectors. Users can also save their navigation tracks and access them in their navigation log. The app notifies users when they enter a marine protected area or an environmentally regulated zone.

In Discovery mode, users can explore the marine environment through points of interest. These points provide access to numerous photos and information about biodiversity. Users can display different elements on their map, including marine protected areas, environmental regulations, aerial and underwater fauna, underwater depths, and best practices.

Key features of NavCo include the ability to download pre-defined marine maps for offline viewing, a navigation log with user profiles and history of navigation tracks, assistance in reading maritime signaling, real-time notifications for environmental regulations, access to tide information, and information about seagrass sectors and marine biodiversity.
